Epson Smart Panel App (iOS and Android)

Applies To

  • Operating Systems: iOS 12 or later, Android 5.0 or later
  • Hardware: Selected Epson Wi-Fi printers and scanners — not every model is supported. Smart Panel is mainly intended for recent or future products rather than current or older models; if your product isn't listed at support.epson.net/appinfo/smartpanel/guide/en, use Epson iPrint (printers), Creative Print, or Document Scan (scanners) instead.

Description

Epson Smart Panel app icon

Epson Smart Panel combines several of Epson's previous apps into one single app. It's a free app that turns a phone or tablet into a control centre for a compatible Epson printer or scanner — print, scan, copy, check ink levels, order supplies, and access troubleshooting, all from the same app. Available from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Note: Latest model compatibility can be checked at http://support.epson.net/appinfo/smartpanel/guide/en/

Solution

Getting Started

  1. Download Epson Smart Panel from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) — it's free.
  2. Connect your phone or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer.
  3. Open the app. It will attempt to automatically detect your Epson product on the network.
  4. If prompted, grant the app's requested permissions — on both iOS and Android, Bluetooth and location access are required for Wi-Fi device discovery during setup. This is a standard platform requirement, not something specific to Epson.
  5. Select your printer from the list, or follow the in-app steps if it isn't found automatically.
Note: If the printer isn't on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone (for example, no shared network is available), you can connect directly via Wi-Fi Direct instead — see KA-01635.

Printing a Photo or Document

  1. Open Smart Panel and select the Photo or Document option from the menu (usually presented as a wheel or row of icons on the home screen).
  2. Select the file — supported file types are JPEG and PNG for photos, and PDF, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for documents.
  3. Adjust print options as needed — paper size and type, number of copies, page range, one- or two-sided printing, borders, and colour or monochrome.
  4. Tap Print.
Note: To print an email attachment, first save the attachment to your device's files, then print it as a document using the steps above.

Scanning a Document

  1. Lift the scanner lid and place your document on the scanner glass.
  2. In Smart Panel, select the Scan option.
  3. Choose your scan settings (resolution, image type).
  4. Tap Start to scan.
  5. Once complete, you'll be prompted to save the scan to your device — supported formats are JPEG, PNG, and PDF.

Scanning With Your Phone's Camera (Away From the Printer)

Smart Panel can also scan using your phone or tablet's own camera, without needing to be near the printer — useful for documents you don't have access to a scanner for.

  1. Select the Document Capture option in the app.
  2. Take a photo of the document.
  3. Adjust the cropped area if needed.
  4. Save it to your device's photo library.

Checking Ink Levels and Product Status

The printer's status and ink levels are shown on the Smart Panel home screen — tap the printer image at the top of the screen for more options, including ordering supplies and product registration.

Ordering More Ink

  1. On the home screen, tap the printer image at the top of the page.
  2. Select Buy Ink from the menu — this opens the relevant Epson store page for your printer's ink.

Registering Your Product

  1. On the home screen, tap the printer image at the top of the page.
  2. Select Online Registration — this opens the product registration page for your device.

Cleaning the Print Head

A print head cleaning option is available directly from the app's main menu — look for it alongside the print and scan options. Running this from the app is equivalent to running a head clean from the printer's own control panel.

Troubleshooting and Video Manuals

The app's menu also includes a link to video manuals for your specific product, and a searchable link to your product's full User's Guide for troubleshooting beyond what's covered in the app itself.

Installing Epson Creative Print

Epson Creative Print (a separate app for templates, greeting cards, and creative printing projects) can be installed directly from a link in the Smart Panel menu, if you want additional creative printing features beyond Smart Panel's own capabilities.
