Common Wi‑Fi Issues and How to Fix Them

Applies To

Epson Wi Fi–enabled printers

Symptom

Users may experience one or more of the following:

  • The Epson device cannot find the wireless network
  • Connection fails during setup
  • Intermittent or unreliable Wi Fi connectivity
  • The device appears offline despite the network working on other devices

Description

Basic Wi Fi issues are commonly caused by signal quality, router configuration, or previous network settings stored on the device. Physical obstructions, wireless interference, or unsupported network configurations can also prevent a stable connection.

This article covers the core checks that should be completed before moving on to advanced troubleshooting.

Solution

Follow these steps in order:

  1. Check device location
Ensure the Epson device is positioned close to the wireless router. Avoid placing it near partition walls, large furniture, or appliances such as TVs.
  2. Reduce wireless interference
Confirm there are no sources of interference between the router and the Epson device, including:
    • Cordless phones or baby monitors
    • Bluetooth devices operating on the 2.4 GHz band
    • Other Wi Fi–enabled appliances
  3. Remove intermediate network devices
For troubleshooting purposes, the Epson device should connect directly to the wireless router. Remove or bypass:
    • Repeaters
    • Hubs or switches
    • Bridges or extenders
  4. Check router configuration
    • Ensure the router is powered on and in a ready state
    • Confirm DHCP is enabled so the router can automatically assign an IP address
    • Verify the SSID is visible and uses standard ASCII characters
  5. Confirm network consistency
Make sure the computer or mobile device used for setup is connected to the same Wi Fi network you want the Epson device to use.
  6. Prepare the Epson device
    • Disconnect all cables except the power cable (for example, USB)
    • Power on the device and confirm there are no error messages
  7. Reset network settings (if previously configured)
If setup has been attempted before, reset the network settings on the Epson device:
    • Devices with a screen
      • Settings > Restore Default Settings > Network Settings
      • Or
      • Settings > General Settings > System Administration > Restore Default Settings > Network Settings
    • Devices without a screen
      • Turn the printer on while holding the paper button with the i symbol
      • When complete, the network status light will flash alternately
Refer to the Epson User’s Guide for model specific instructions.
  8. Run the Epson Setup Navi
Select your Epson model on the Epson Support website, choose Setup, and follow the on screen instructions to complete Wi Fi setup.

Prevention

To reduce future Wi Fi issues:

  • Keep the Epson device within reliable range of the wireless router
  • Avoid changing router SSID names, security settings, or frequency bands without updating the device
  • Minimise wireless interference in the printer’s location
  • Document network details before making router changes
