Push Scan – Required Software and How It Works
Applies To
- Epson All in One printers
- Epson scanners with control panel buttons
Symptom
The customer cannot scan directly from the Epson device using the control panel buttons (for example, Scan to Computer, Scan to Email, or Scan to File).
Description
Push Scan relies on specific Epson software being installed and running on the computer. If any required component is missing or incompatible with the operating system, the scanner buttons will not work.
Solution
To use Push Scan successfully, the following software must be installed:
- Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2 (scanner driver)
- Epson Event Manager (button communication) or
- Epson ScanSmart (scan workflow and editing)
Each application has a specific role, explained below.

- Checking Which Epson Software Is Installed
Purpose: Scanner driver (required).
This is the core application that allows the computer to communicate with the scanner hardware. Without it, scanning will not work at all.
Only one of the following should be installed:
- Epson Scan (original, 32 bit)
- Epson Scan 2 (newer, 64 bit compatible)
Which one to install depends on the operating system. Use the Checking Which Epson Software Is Installed tab above for guidance.
