Push Scan | Required Epson Software and How It Works
Push Scan — Required Software and How It Works
Applies To
Description
If you can't scan directly from the Epson device's control panel buttons (e.g. Scan to Computer, Scan to Email, Scan to File), it's usually because Push Scan relies on specific Epson software being installed and running on the computer. If any required component is missing or incompatible with your operating system, the scanner buttons won't work.
Solution
Which software do I need?
- Modern products typically use Epson Scan 2 or Epson ScanSmart, depending on the product model.
- Some older products use Epson Scan and Epson Event Manager.
- The software available for your product depends on its support page downloads.
Push Scan requires one of the following software combinations:
- Epson Scan or Epson Scan 2 AND Epson Event Manager
- OR Epson ScanSmart on its own
Note: Epson ScanSmart includes the functionality needed to support Push Scan on compatible products and does not require Epson Event Manager.
The software available for your product depends on the model and operating system. The sections below explain the role of each application.
Each application has a specific role, explained below.

Epson Scan / Epson Scan 2
Purpose: Scanner driver (required).
This is the core application that allows the computer to communicate with the scanner hardware. Without it, scanning will not work at all.
Only one of the following should be installed:
- Epson Scan (original, 32 bit)
- Epson Scan 2 (newer, 64 bit compatible)
Which one to install depends on the operating system. Use the Checking Which Epson Software Is Installed tab above for guidance.
