Approximate page yields and methods
To help customers choose the best printer to suit their needs and budget Epson provides toner cartridge yields based on the criteria for toner products set by the International Standards Organization for Standardization.
The ISO standard is widely recognized as the most reliable method to test laser printers under standard conditions for the purpose of comparing achievable toner yields from various competitive printers.
Yields may vary considerably based on images printed, print settings, paper type, frequency of use, humidity and temperature. Since no single yield standard can duplicate a customer’s actual printer usage, Epson recommends that customers choose a laser printer based on their expected printing needs, considering page yields as just one factor of evaluation. Other important factors include image quality, fade resistance of prints, reliability and printer features.
Using the ISO Standard
The ISO/IEC 19752 and 19798 standard was created by the International Standards Organization for Standardization (ISO) with the support of national standards institutes throughout the world, independent experts and industry representatives. Representatives from Epson, Canon, HP, Lexmark and other industry-leading manufacturers worked extensively to achieve a standard that provides customers with a reasonable basis for comparing printer performance.
The new ISO standards for monochrome and colour toner cartridge yields clearly define the key attributes that affect yield and apply robust statistical analysis so all manufactures can utilize the same methodology when measuring yield. Until now, printer manufactursers have not been able to use a uniform methodology to measure catridge yields.

Photoconductor Units
There is currently no existing ISO/IEC standard for photoconductor unit page yield testing. Epson’s photoconductor unit claimed page yields are the maximum number of printed pages based on Epson’s own methodology.
Depending on the printer series methodology may vary. However, generally photoconductor unit page yields are measured using 5% coverage rate pattern documents printed on A4 size paper.

Quoted yields may vary depending on printing variables and conditions including page coverage, continuous or intermittent printing. Smaller print jobs may result in lower page yields.
Fuser Units and Waste Toner Boxes
There is currently no existing ISO/IEC standard for fuser units & waste toner boxes page yield testing. Epson’s claimed page yields are the maximum number of printed pages based on Epson’s own methodology, including page coverage, continuous or intermittent printing, power saving mode shift frequency.
