Printing Is Slow When Using IPPS (IPP Secure)
Issue:
Printing via an IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) port offers enhanced security, but it may result in slower print speeds. If performance is a priority, switching to alternative ports like RAW (9100), LPR, or WSD can improve speed but with a trade-off in security.
Solution:
Step 1: Enable RAW (9100) and LPR Ports
You can do this either through the printer’s Web Configuration interface or the Control Panel (depending on your printer model).
Step 2: Reinstall the Printer Driver
After enabling the ports, uninstall and reinstall the printer driver. The new installation will automatically create a print queue that supports LPR printing.
How to Enable RAW and LPR Ports
Option 1: Using the Printer Control Panel
-
Navigate to:
General Settings → Network Settings → Advanced → Printing Port -
Enable the following protocols:
- LPR
- RAW (9100)
- WSD
Option 2: Using the Printer Web Config
- Open a browser and connect to the printer’s Web Config interface.
- Log in as an Administrator.
- Go to the Network Security tab.
- In the left-hand menu, select Protocol.
-
Enable the following:
- WSD
- LPR Port Printing
- RAW Port (9100) Printing
